Balloon Plant (gomphocarpus physocarpus)

Pink and green spheres with surface hairs cling from the tall slender stems of this weird, perennial, under shrub that is capable of growing up to 6 feet high. Small white flowers bloom late summer and morph into three inch round, inflated, spheres between long narrow, lance shaped, light green leaves. A favorite food of butterflies, including Monarchs, this is a great addition to the butterfly garden collection or as a container plant for the larger patio or porch.
